FInal Jest shows he's serious at Benalla
May 27, 2013
A tough run failed to prevent promising galloper Final Jest scoring his second successive win in the Sportsbet Top Tote Handicap (1206m).
The four-year-old gelding scored a strong win first-up from a 34-week spell at Albury on May 10 before crossing the border into Victoria for his latest victory.
Nick Souquet took over aboard Final Jest but the duo had no luck early as a wide gate consigned the son of Stargazer to racing three-deep for the first half of therace.
Final Jest ended up five wide rounding the home turn as his opposition attempted their winning runs but the inexperienced galloper found his balance and rhythm early in the straight.
Souquet got the best out of Final Jest as the pair surged late to score by three-quarters of a length, notching his second victory from three outings.
“That wasn’t a bad win actually, because he only just got through the (dead) track,” Souquet said.
“I was pumping him along a long way from home.
“He has got a terrible lot of upside. It was a really good win.”
Final Jest banked another $9000 winner’s cheque for connections, taking his earnings to more than $17,800.
Congratulations to Final Jest’s owners - Christopher and Margaret Rentessis.
