Final Jest makes it a hat trick at Swan Hill

Jun 08, 2013

Emerging sprinter Final Jest produced another enormous performance to complete a hat trick of wins in the Swan Hill Stockfeeds Rating 62 Handicap (1200m) at Swan Hill.

Final Jest started his winning streak in an Albury maiden but the son of Stargazer added another victory at Benalla before his brilliant Swan Hill success.

The four-year-old had nothing go his way before the race after drawing barrier 14 to complement his 60kg impost and luck deserted Final Jest and jockey Mark Pegus early in the $15,000 event.

Pegus was unable to find Final Jest a spot closer than three horses off the fence at any stage while his opposition riders made life difficult for the duo when he pushed him even wider approaching the home turn.

Runners continued to shift out early in the straight, causing Final Jest to be bumped heavily at the 400 metres but the smart galloper stuck to his task.

Final Jest regained his balance at the 250 metres before hitting his top a furlong out of from the finish with his ability and bravery coming to the fore late, enabling him to score a two-length win.

Final Jest truly earned his third win from four starts and the $9000 winner’s cheque, which took his earnings to more than $26,000.

Congratulations to Final Jest’s owners - Christopher and Margaret Rentessis.
